Alexandra is a lecturer at St Anne’s and St Hilda’s. She completed her undergraduate degree at Royal Holloway, an MSt and a DPhil in Musicology at Magdalen College, Oxford. Before joining St Anne’s in 2009, she taught at Worcester College, the University of Bristol, and Oxford Brookes University. She has a PG DipLATHE (Postgraduate Diploma in Teaching and Learning in Higher Education) from the Oxford Learning Institute.
Medieval and Renaissance English Music (especially Drama, Patronage, and The Reformation); History of Institutions (especially Collegiate Churches); Iconography; Biography; Purcell; Beethoven; Mahler; Popular Music. She has published widely on these areas in Early Music, Plainsong and Medieval Music, Early Music Today, Early Music Performer, Early Music Review, Die Musik in Geschichte und Gegenwart, and Vidimus. In addition to her academic work, Dr Buckle enjoys outreach work and has recently spoken on BBC Radio 3, been the Music Consultant for English Heritage’s new presentation of Henry II’s Great Tower at Dover Castle, and developed a new adult appreciation course for Classic FM.In March 2015, Dr Buckle organised the music and prayers for the reburial of Richard III.
